CITY OF BARRIE
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 24" x 36"
This artwork was commissioned by the City of Barrie to wrap two traffic cabinets in Barrie, Ontario as part of the Graffiti Abatement Program. Titled “Colours of Our Community,” the piece serves as a visual diary told through the lens of my childhood self, celebrating the landmarks, events, foods, and everyday moments that shaped my sense of community—from skating at City Hall to biking along the lakeshore.
Each of the five colours represents a different facet of Barrie life: pink for the arts, purple for food and drink, blue for gathering, orange for family, and yellow for energy. These vibrant layers are combined with my signature detailed, playful black linework and collage-style illustration, creating a dynamic composition that evokes joy, nostalgia, and civic pride. The piece reflects both personal memories and the collective spirit of the community, turning everyday spaces into a celebration of connection and place.
